Using questionnaires and plant visits, the problem SMEs face when designing and implementing CIM will be identified. The strengths and weaknesses of exiting tools will be assessed in areas of technical and organisational design of CIM systems. The problems of incorporating human factors in technology research and development projects will be identified, along with techniques for the economic justification of CIM.
