5603 - Joint Technical and Organisational Design of CIM Systems
for SMEs (CIM-SME)

Objectives |
- The objective of this project
is to establish the user needs and problems arising out of the
introduction of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) into
small and medium size enterprises (SMEs).

- Using questionnaires and plant
visits, the problem SMEs face when designing and implementing
CIM will be identified. The strengths and weaknesses of exiting
tools will be assessed in areas of technical and organisational
design of CIM systems. The problems of incorporating human factors
in technology research and development projects will be identified,
along with techniques for the economic justification of CIM.

- The consortium will establish
the deficiencies and future needs for CIM implementation in SMEs.
