Cheshire Henbury was established by Paul T Kidd in 1988 and activities reflect Paul's interests. The main focus has been in the area of research strategy and policy, especially in relation to longer term issues in manufacturing. Topics such as manufacturing futures and visions, next generation manufacturing, agility as a next generation concept, competitive manufacturing, and so forth have been central to Cheshire Henbury's work. Cheshire Henbury has also participated in several European research projects, and has been involved with the development of methods and tools for competitive manufacturing and strategic technology management. Since 1997 Cheshire Henbury has also worked in the area of Sustainable Manufacturing, and, since 2007, has also been involved with Sustainable Agriculture. Manufacturing and Agriculture are both strategically important for a successful transition to a sustainable civilisation. Both however, are locked in the past, caught-up in collective beliefs and taken for granted assumptions that result in research that is often little more that a projection of an irrelevant past into an irrelevant future. Research support agencies need to open their eyes to this problem … And it is the exploration of these strategic matters that you will find in this web site and in the content of Cheshire Henbury’s publications. And on the matter of publishing—Cheshire Henbury is working to overturn the orthodoxies of traditional publishers by participating in the development of Indie Publishing.
