- OLGA aims to help European
Electronic Games industry
- A fresh look is being made
to find out the research activities that will best help Electronic
Games development. Europe's Games Industry will be asked to identify
obstacles in the way of progress so that the European Commission
will encourage the Industry to solve its problems by funding
joint research projects.
- Comments and views will be
sought through two consultative workshops and several white papers.
An Industry Working Group had been formed to act as an electronic
sounding board for the planning and the final recommendations.
The work is being carried out in a project, called OLGA, that
has been funded by the European Commission. OLGA will produce
a background document suggesting the areas considered most suitable
for research proposals. The ultimate aim is for research results
that will help the European electronic games industry to be more
competitive in world markets.
- Two free consultative workshops
are planned for Brussels and London. The first on enabling technologies
took place on 26 and 27 May and the second, looking at Business
procedures, will be on 19 and 20 October. Among the topics tackled
by the second workshop will be legal issues, marketing and training.
OLGA will also look at the desirability of an industry trade
association that will encourage a concerted voice and collaborative
actions.
- OLGA's final report is due
early in the year 2000 but interim findings will be circulated
during the current year. The management consultancy project team
includes Steve Cooke. Organisations that want more information
or wish to join the electronic working party should send their
nominations to enquire41@cheshirehenbury.com
