Agile Manufacturing:

Forging New Frontiers

Paul T. Kidd

1994, ISBN 0-201-63163-6

1.1 Introduction

The term Agile Manufacturing came into common usage with the publication of the Iacocca Institute report 21st Century Manufacturing Enterprise Strategy (Iacocca Institute 1991). Agile Manufacturing has been used to refer to other concepts such as flexible manufacturing and lean production, as though these were all synonymous with one another. What we will present in this Chapter is a definition of Agile Manufacturing and its conceptual framework.
