4 October 2001
Since the launch of the eBusiness
and eWork web site in July 2001, we have focused our attention
on content and usability. Both these areas continue to be our
priorities.
The web is still very young
when compared to other software such as word processors, spreadsheets,
planning systems etc., yet a tradition has already developed
that web sites are designed by graphics designers. Why? Graphics
designers design for aesthetics not for usability or content.
Graphics designers are like the man who only had a hammer and
viewed everything as a nail. Perhaps there where once good reasons
why graphics designers were involved in web site design, but
maybe the time has come to move web sites towards a more mature
"graphics designer free" era, where usability becomes
king.
Whilst usability and content
must be the prime design criteria for most business oriented
web sites, we do feel that a good page layout with a pleasing
appearance is part of the usability issue. Consequently we are
pleased to present as from today (4 October 2001) a new page
layout for the eBusiness and eWork web pages.
We will be continuing to review
usability issues and find ways to improve our web pages in order
to more quickly convey information to you, the customer for these
pages. |
