Paul T. Kidd, an independent
researcher, consultant and author, has been involved since 1983
at the leading edge of international efforts to define, develop
and implement new manufacturing and business philosophies. He
has considerable experience in this field and is one of the few
internationally recognised leading experts in the area of agile
manufacturing.
He has undertaken work for
both large and small companies and has acted as an advisor to
the Department of Trade and Industry, the European Commission
and the United Nations' International Labour Organization.
Paul was one of the founding
members of the IEE's Next Generation Manufacturing
Enterprise Professional Group and was primarily responsible
for creating the IEE's Next Generation Manufacturing Enterprise
Framework. He also founded in 1995 the European Agility Forum.
He has lectured widely throughout
the world on topics of strategic importance to industry and is
the author of several major and leading works in the area of
agile manufacturing enterprise.
He wrote the world's first
book dealing with the topic of agile manufacturing (Agile Manufacturing:
Forging New Frontiers published by Addison-Wesley in 1994), which
remains to this day the only book dealing with the fundamental
paradigm shift issues implied by agility. In 1996 he also wrote
a best selling management report for the Financial Times, entitled
"Revolutionising New Product Development: A Blueprint for
Success in the Global Automotive Industry". This report
among other things, deals with mass customization and agile new
product development practices.
In 1997 he researched and wrote
another major management report, entitled "Rapid Prototyping
for Competitive Advantage: Technologies, Applications and Implementation
for Market Success". This strategic work addresses rapid
prototyping within the context of niche marketing and customization,
agility (change competency) and exploitation of knowledge. |
