Is Agility for Me?

All companies face the problems that agility addresses, but not all companies are ready for the radical ideas needed to become agile. Agility is still a developing topic and is at the stage where it is not possible to buy an off-the-shelf solution. Elements of agility can certainly be found in many companies, but as the saying goes "one swallow does not make a summer".

Agility should only be addressed by people who are not "risk adverse". People who want fully worked out answers and concepts and a solution that they can implement with little risk should stay clear of the topic.

Agility is a frontier activity, therefore propensity to adopt depends on a number of factors:

  • inclination towards risk
  • sophistication
  • previous experience with novel ideas
  • intensity of rivalry between firms and the extent of structural change
  • innovation capabilities
  • resources
  • political commitment
